Background, not a guide to the first game

HUMANKIND in 2021, and the sequel announced in 2026

HUMANKIND 2 is the sequel to HUMANKIND, which the 25 August 2026 press release places in 2021 and calls critically acclaimed. That wording is the studio's, relayed by the press release. This page does not add a review score, and it does not walk through the first game's systems. The subject of this site remains the unreleased sequel.

How the announcement talks about the first game

The press release says HUMANKIND 2 builds on core gameplay from the first HUMANKIND and adds further ways to rewrite history. It says the sequel draws on years of player feedback. It does not, in that document, reprint a feature list of the 2021 game. This guide follows that boundary. Familiarity with the first game is not used here as a source for unstated sequel rules.

Amplitude's community post on announcement day thanks players for feedback across five years and says that feedback helped lay the foundation for the next title. It also points people at the 2021 game during a sale. The press release is more specific about that offer: a 90 percent discount on Steam "from now until 8 September 2026." The community post calls it a deep sale of up to 90 percent off. That end date has passed. This page records the offer as announcement history. It is not a current discount, and this site is not a store.

The five-year film, in one paragraph

The press release links a YouTube video it titles "HUMANKIND - Celebrating 5 years." In that film the studio says the launch was five years earlier, that the game then had five DLCs and 15 major updates, and that the account they were giving stood at 86 cultures and 69 wonders. Those figures are the studio talking about HUMANKIND, the released game. They are not a published roster for HUMANKIND 2. The video also describes years of changes to the first game. This page does not catalog those changes. A system guide to the 2021 release would be a different project, and it is not this one.

The studio, as the press release describes it

Developer and publisher of the sequel, on Steam, are both AMPLITUDE Studios. The press release's company note calls the legal entity Amplitude Studios SAS, founded in 2011, based in Paris, and made up of 140 developers. It says the studio is known for HUMANKIND and the ENDLESS franchise, and that its games have reached more than 10 million players worldwide. That player total is the company's own description in the release, not a figure this guide recalculated. The same note says players take part in development through Amplifiers, which it calls a community hub powered by Games2Gether.

The HUMANKIND 2 announcement says the studio will keep developing the sequel with that community, with updates from the development team. It also says announcement day was "just the beginning" and points readers to a Steam wishlist ahead of 2027.

What this page will not do

  • It will not list the 2021 game's cultures, victories, or DLC contents. The headline counts above are the exception, and they stay attributed to the studio film.
  • It will not treat a 2021 system as present in HUMANKIND 2 unless the sequel materials say so.
  • It will not give the 2021 game a review score. The press release's phrase "critically acclaimed" is quoted as their description only.
  • It will not pretend the September 2026 discount is still running.

Sequel themes that have actually been published are on what's new. The 2027 window is on release. Every URL, including the 2021 Steam page and the five-year film, is on sources.
