HUMANKIND 2 is announced for PC in 2027

On 25 August 2026, during gamescom Opening Night Live, AMPLITUDE Studios announced HUMANKIND 2, a historical turn-based strategy sequel. Steam lists the game as coming soon, with a planned PC release in 2027 and no day or month. It is not released. This guide is a wishlist and announcement briefing, not a review of a game already on sale.

What the announcement already says

The press release, dated in Paris on 25 August 2026, calls HUMANKIND 2 the sequel to the 2021 game HUMANKIND. It describes a historical turn-based strategy game in which each age changes both the civilization and the world around it. Players found cities, develop technologies, forge alliances, command armies, and lead people from their earliest settlements into the Modern Age.

Amplitude's own community post from the same day uses a similar frame. It talks about leading people from ancient times to the Modern Age, developing cities and an empire, trading with neighbors or coming into conflict with them, and shaping customs from ancestral heritage and the environment. The Steam about-text adds that decisions carry forward into the climate and the culture of a people.

Three themes are specific enough to follow further. What's new separates the culture pitch, the climate pitch, and the city-and-army pitch, and it stops where the sources stop. Release collects the 2027 window, the Windows listing, the language table, and the PC requirements Steam has already printed. Series keeps the 2021 game as background only.

A store page that is still a coming-soon page

The purchase area on Steam does not offer a cart. It says the game is not yet available, prints "Planned Release Date: 2027," and asks interested people to add it to a wishlist so they can be notified when it becomes available. That is the action this guide points to. There is no edition list in the captured package data, and the app is not flagged as free, but no price is shown either.

Steam lists the genre as Strategy. Popular user-defined tags on the page include Strategy, 4X, Turn-Based Strategy, Historical, Grand Strategy, City Builder, Alternate History, and others. Those tags are user tags. They are not a feature sheet from the studio, and this guide does not treat a tag such as Hex Grid or Top-Down as a confirmed system.

Still unpublished

Compiled 16 October 2026. Later announcements can fill these gaps. Until they do, this guide leaves them blank.

  • No day or month inside 2027, and no time zone for a launch.
  • No price, discount, or edition.
  • No macOS, Linux, or console version in the press release or the Steam platform flags. Windows is the platform Steam lists.
  • No user-review score, critic score, or Metacritic figure. Steam's review line reads "No user reviews."
  • No full culture roster, era list, victory rules, or multiplayer format. Steam does list a Multi-player feature label. The announcement does not explain how that mode works.
  • No statement in these materials that a public session is open. This page does not describe one.

The readable labels on one official screenshot do go further than the press release on cultures. A Crossroads screen shows Culture Chapters, a Culture Points counter, and cards for Scandinavians, Ancient Egyptians, and Maya. That screen is described on What's new, with the parts the image does not explain left unexplained.

Where the wording comes from

Sentences on this site are paraphrases of the Steam store page, the Games Press release of 25 August 2026, and Amplitude's community post "Humankind 2 Revealed - Coming 2027," plus labels that can be read on the official Steam screenshots. URLs for all of those documents sit on the sources page and nowhere else as a bibliography. Questions that come up most often are gathered in the FAQ.
